Group Fitness: it’s fun, it’s social, it’s loud, and it’s diverse. Group classes can very in theme, style, and equipment use. There are all types of exercise equipment on the market. Some can be utilized for great results, and others are probably not worth your hard-earned money. Here are some of my favorites. They work great used in a circuit with a group of dedicated fitness enthusiasts. This is by no means an exhaustive list, but this is also a great list to use for building your own home gym!
.) Medicine Ball: 8-10 lbs. This is great for squatting and tossing, slamming, core exercises, and rotational lunges
.) Stability Ball: Choose a size according to your height. Great for core exercises, wall squats, leg curls, and other suspended hip and posterior chain moves. A very affordable option for a large exercise class.
.) Jungle Gym: A total body workout. You can do planks, push-ups, lunges, jumps, rows. The suspension system makes all of these moves more challenging.
.) Dumbbells: My favorite! You can use different dumbbell resistances for squats, lunges, presses, rows, and arm exercises. The sky is the limit with the different angles and types of moves you can do with these.
.) Bands: I prefer bands that anchor at the center, leaving room to push and pull with both arms at the same time. Different resistances can be purchases to progress an exercise. Bands are great for their constant tension and ease on the joints. A very affordable option for a large exercise class.
